PERFORMANCE COACHING FOR YOUTH

For young people, learning clear communication develops a sense of confidence and competence – essential ingredients for success in all aspects of life. Public speaking, interviews for jobs and post-secondary education, classroom presentations – these challenges present an opportunity to develop Emotional Intelligence and Social Intelligence, and to acquire skills that have a profound impact on their future. Maria LeRose appreciates the potential in every young person, and she knows how to inspire them to be their best. Performance Coaching for Youth can occur one-on-one, or in small groups.

SUCCESS STORIES:
performance_imageHeart-Mind Youth Dialogue with the Dalai Lama

October 21, 2014 marked the Dalai Lama’s first ever visit to a Canadian school. At John Oliver Secondary in Vancouver, His Holiness engaged in a unique dialogue with high-school students from across British Columbia. As the young people on stage shared personal stories of how their hearts had been educated at school, more than 30,000 students from Alberta, British Columbia, the Yukon and Washington participated in the event via live-stream. Maria helped student panellists explore their stories and find a deep connection with the heart-mind values of the Dalai Lama.

"Maria is like the perfect mom. She is kind and loving, yet assertive and decisive. She will get the job done WELL, while still having fun and laughing with everybody involved."
-Matthew Terrell Morin,
Panelist, Heart-Mind Youth Dialogue with the Dalai Lama

The Ambassadors

performance_imageAn innovative Grade 8 teacher in an inner city school in Maryland arranged for his science students to visit a local cancer clinic to interview people who were undergoing treatment. He thought it would be an extraordinary experience for students to move beyond the textbook definitions of cancer - into the real world. But how would he prepare his students to do the interviews? That’s where Maria LeRose came in. She spent three days working with the students – honing their skills in research, videography, and on-camera interviewing. Then, then went to the Cancer Clinic. For students, the experience was transformational. They captured their journey on videotape and, appropriately, called themselves “The Ambassadors”.

On September 8, 2006 nine high school students stepped onto stage at Vancouver’s Orpheum Theatre to take part in the first ever youth dialogue with the Dalai Lama. This moment was the culmination of months of preparation and hard work – contemplating the subject of Compassion, designing Dialogue questions, writing scripts, rehearsing performance. Maria LeRose was by their side as they prepared for this extraordinary event – coaching them every step along the way.

"Maria managed to pull all nine of us, from 13 to 17 years old, through our mental and physical preparation for meeting the Dalai Lama while preparing for her own role as the Moderator/Facilitator of the very next dialogue 'Educating the Heart'. She gives space for youth to express our ideas, meanwhile balancing it with her expertise so that the end product is something purely magical"
- Angela Tsui
